A spoken draft often contains a hesitation or an abandoned start before the sentence you want to keep. Clean prose style provides general cleanup for that kind of dictation: basic punctuation, clear filler removal and cleanup of abandoned repeats, while preserving the meaning you supplied.
Clean prose is ready to use in Styles. It is a useful starting point when you want readable text without choosing the framing of a particular email, post or coding brief. You still need to review the result, especially where a small word changes a commitment or degree of certainty.
Choose a formatter before testing cleanup
- Open Styles, select Clean prose, and open its gear for Rewrite.
- Check Speech transcription for an available recognition model.
- Under Text formatting, choose an available formatting model. Fresh Clean prose settings have no formatter selected; No formatting means the AI cleanup stage will not run.
- In Output Format, choose Formal, Casual or Professional. The initial setting is Professional.
- Select Clean prose and use Today's Start listening to test the active style, then stop and review the output.
For global shortcut dictation into another app, set Styles → Default style to Clean prose for unmatched destinations or link the app/site through Linked apps or Linked websites. A linked match takes priority over the default. Selecting the Clean prose card alone does not determine the style used by global recording.
Test a sentence with a meaningful qualification
An illustrative input is: “Okay, um, I can review the outline tomorrow, but I probably won't finish the appendix.” The intended cleanup can remove the clear hesitation while retaining the lead-in, your role, the date and “probably.” Use the example to refine the style's instruction around the words you want to keep.
Tone is a formatting preference. It should not turn “probably won't finish” into “will finish,” add a new deadline or supply a missing fact. The style's instructions also preserve spoken Korean register, so dictate at the level of politeness you intend and check that the result retains it.
Tune the transformations you actually need
Clean prose starts with Numbered lists, Money as $6,000 and Numbers as digits enabled. Numbered lists apply to explicit enumeration; a quantity alone should not become a task list. Review units and ranges after digit or money cleanup.
Use Your rules for a narrow preference such as “Keep product names in English and preserve every qualification.” Test one representative recording after changing a rule. If a change will not save, follow the displayed length feedback and shorten redundant instructions.
If the result looks unchanged, check that Text formatting has an available model and that the recording actually used Clean prose. If the recognized name is wrong, check the microphone, language or vocabulary before adding style instructions.
See the Clean prose instructions, independent model guide, and custom rules guide for related controls.
