You may want concise wording in a chat app and a structured draft in a writing tool. Linking a style to an application or website reduces the number of times you need to select that style manually. It is most useful when each destination has a clear, recurring writing style.

When you start recording with the global recording shortcut, Sonicribe uses the active application, and where supported the browser URL, to choose a linked style. That selection supplies your style settings. It does not supply the contents of the page or decide what you should say. Today's recording button uses the selected style instead.

  • Open Styles and select the style you want to use.
  • Find Linked apps in its settings.
  • Click Add app and select the intended application.
  • Return to that application and focus a harmless text field.
  • Start a short recording with your configured global recording shortcut and check that the selected style matches your intent.

Use a style you have already tested manually. If the draft is unsuitable before linking, automatic selection will simply repeat the unsuitable result. Fix its instructions first, then make it the recurring choice for that destination.

Use a site pattern for browser work

In the same style settings, find Linked websites, click Add website, enter a pattern such as example.com, and click Add. Choose a pattern that is specific enough for your use. A very broad pattern can affect writing tasks that need a different style.

URL matching depends on supported browser access and macOS permission to obtain the active page URL. If access is unavailable, Sonicribe may be unable to use the site rule. Check the style manually before recording rather than assuming every browser tab can be detected.

Understand which match wins

An application match is considered before a URL match. If you link an entire browser to one style, that application rule can take priority over a more specific site rule. For different writing styles across sites, review the browser-wide link first.

When there is no applicable match, Default style supplies the fallback for global-shortcut recordings. Simply selecting a card in Styles does not replace this matching sequence. Make the default a sensible choice for ordinary dictation, and avoid relying on a remembered style from a previous task. A small recording is a useful way to verify a new set of links.

Troubleshoot an unexpected draft

Open the style's Linked apps and Linked websites lists and remove a link you no longer want. Look for duplicate or broad rules across your styles. Check the default style and browser permissions when no expected match appears.

For example, if a fictional project website should use your project-note style but receives a chat-style draft, check whether the browser itself is linked to the chat style. Correct that assignment, then repeat a short test in the project page.

Use the app and site linking instructions for the control reference. Build the actual writing behavior with custom styles and formatting rules, then review every completed draft before sending it.
