A recording shortcut is useful when you already have the destination open and an idea ready to say. Instead of leaving the text field to find a recording button, you can start dictation, speak, and stop using a combination that fits your everyday Mac habits.
Sonicribe exposes three configurable actions: Record shortcut, Discard recording, and Change style. Begin by checking the combinations displayed in your own installation. Previously saved settings and Reset behavior mean you should not assume a shortcut from another person's setup is yours.
Inspect and change the controls
- Open Settings and find Shortcuts.
- Read the current combination beside each action.
- Click the action you want to change.
- Press the combination you want to assign.
- Resolve any conflict or reserved-key feedback before using it.
Choose a combination that you do not routinely use for another action. Your writing editor, browser, macOS settings, and other utilities may already depend on familiar key combinations. A shortcut that looks convenient in Sonicribe still needs a small test in your real destination.
The Reset button restores the app's reset values. Read the displayed combinations after resetting; do not treat Reset as a substitute for checking what is now configured.
Practice each action separately
Focus a harmless text field and use your configured Record shortcut shortcut. Speak a short sentence, then press it again to stop. Wait for processing and check the resulting text. This establishes the start-and-stop sequence before you try a longer draft.
Next, start another disposable recording and use Discard recording. Cancellation discards the active recording, so practice with material you do not need to keep. Escape also acts as a local cancel shortcut during recording; the globally configured cancellation combination may differ.
Finally, use Change style to open the style switcher. Today's recording button uses your selected style. Starting through the global recording shortcut reselects a style using an application link, then a website link, then Default style as the fallback. Check those assignments rather than assuming a selected style card will control global-shortcut dictation in another app.
Recover from a missed shortcut
If the shortcut does not start recording, check its displayed assignment first. Then test whether another application receives the same combination. Use the app's recording button as a fallback while you review the conflict. If recording works but automatic paste fails, inspect the destination and the macOS Accessibility permission needed for paste.
For repeated work, keep a short mental sequence: focus the field, check the style, start, speak, stop, review. This reduces accidental recordings and helps you notice the wrong destination before committing a draft.
Use the shortcut instructions as a control reference and the record-and-paste guide for the full destination workflow.
